The Story behind “Songs From The Attic”

As my then pregnant wife and I moved from Zurich to St. Gallen in 2022, I had to find a new space where I could work on my music. Luckily, I came across a small attic room on the 5th floor above St. Gallen's Old Town. I immediately fell in love with it. I had always dreamt of having a space where I could rehearse and create, one that wasn't a bunker and was illuminated by daylight. So, that was it. I have a beautiful view on the city. It’s boiling hot in summer and freezing cold in winter. But I love it.

I began working on these songs in Spring 2023 and eventually started recording them in my attic. Most of the recorded songs were written earlier, except for "Sophie," which I finished sometime in 2023.

I recorded the original basic tracks with my limited setup and enhanced them with overdubs recorded by myself and some of my friends. Notably, Sebastian Schwarz played banjo and provided backing vocals on "Sophie," while Timo Keller played the organ on "Sophie" and helped me record additional guitars for "The Glue."

Sophie" explores the challenges that young parents face with the arrival of a newborn. "The Glue" examines what keeps us all together in a world that seems to fall apart. “Box Of Dreams” talks about losing sight of one’s dreams. “Eifachs Liad” is one of the songs I have written in Swiss German throughout the last years and the first one I am releasing.

Writing songs and creating melodies is my passion, and I am grateful to be able to do what I love. "Songs From The Attic" has been a fun project. It's simple. It’s imperfect. But it comes from the heart. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
